Milestone Town Celebrations Happening in 2025

Three communities in Pocahontas County will be hosting big centennial celebrations next summer. While each town has already begun fundraising and outlining the plan for their big celebration, the purpose of this blog post is to get the dates out for individuals interested in attending these events as well as a very early preview of some of the activities planned for each of them.

Varina: June 6 – 8, 2025

Varina’s tentative plan for their 125th celebration is to be held on June 6 – 8, 2025. “What we have lined up so far is a multi-cultural event on the 6th, a parade and car show on the 7th, with a dance in the evening of the 7th,” Mayor Dick Ferrell shared. “On Sunday the 8th we have an open class pig show in the morning along with an omelet breakfast and a cowboy church service.” Like the other celebrations on this list, it is still very early in the planning stages, so be sure to stay tuned to the town’s website for more information as it develops.

Pocahontas: July 18 – 20, 2025

Pocahontas’s 155th Celebration (recognized as a sesquicentennial celebration delayed from the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic) will be held July 18 – 20th, 2025, the same weekend as the Pocahontas County Fair. The Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce is coordinating the event. The weekend will include plenty of family friendly activities as well as multiple live music performances. The Spazmatics from Chicago, known around Iowa for their RAGBRAI performances, will be headlining the weekend on the evening Saturday, July 19th. Multiple routine Heritage Days activities will make a return, as well as new and special activities like a corn on the cob eating contest. Keep an eye on the Chamber’s website and Facebook for more information as plans develop over the next year!

Palmer: July 31 – August 2, 2025

Palmer’s 125th Celebration kicks off on Thursday, July 31. While exact details are still up in the air, there will for sure be a parade on Saturday morning, and a street dance on both Friday and Saturday evenings. The planning committee is also looking to have an all-school reunion sometime on Saturday. The group is continuing to meet and work hard to flesh out a full planned schedule for the big celebration. Follow the Palmer 125th Celebration Facebook page for more information as it develops!

While you wait for the big celebrations to come around, be sure to check out the Event Calendar on our website for what other fun can keep you entertained!
